The University Literary Professors Poem by Francis Duggan

The University Literary Professors

Rating: 5.0

The university Literary Professors say who is or is not a poet
This one is a poetaster one not worthy of note
And this one is quite talented a budding young poet here
On their say the making or breaking of many a literary career.

The University Literary Professors have rung the death of rhyme
They tell us such unworthy stuff is of another time
They tell us that rhymers and songwriters to another class belong
That poetry readings or publications does not need rhyme or song.

The University Literary Professors feel they know what is poetry
Since they feel they are experts on all things literary
They see rhyme as inferior they never would invite
An old style rhyming person to read at their poetry reading night.

The University Literary Professors it is they who do decide
Those who should be forgotten and those who should be known far and wide
The sort of verse that they like they always will promote
And they decide who is a poetaster and the one who is a poet
