The Vicious Circle Poem by Farina Afrin Malik

The Vicious Circle

I’m a people pleaser.
It’s possible to disagree
to see things differently
but I don’t.
I choose yes,
because it’s easy,
uncomplicated,
makes you liked.
Yet why is it
that I don’t like it.
I never get what I want.
A small gesture,
that’s all,
in place of all those big gestures
that I do.
But no one sees it.
Taken for granted
like none of it matters.
Except it matters to me
and they can’t see it.
They can’t see me.
My mind is screaming
say no,
but if I do,
I know
they won’t hear me.
I hate it and
hate feeling this way
but I never say anything.
My pain seems
irrelevant
because, after all
I am a people pleaser.
