The Villain Poem by Mio Draconis

The Villain

I held out for a hero
But no one ever came
And time slowly warped me
Into the villain.

Everyone has a story,
A reason for which they fight,
And as a villain
Here is why
I "turned away from the light".

You see, no light can penetrate
The darkness brought on by pain
And I came to accept it
Just to make sure
I wouldn't be betrayed again.

Oh, of course I was,
Because even villains turn against each other,
But no, never again
Will someone else be the reason I sob and shudder.

And now I may confess,
That I am finally truly free,
Because now I don't have to -
Shouldn't, couldn't, won't -
Live up to the expectations of who I must be.

The hatred that corrupts,
The heart that loathes,
Not visible to the eye.
Inflicting this
And turning things amok, amiss
Are the only rules I live by.
