The Voice Of A Child Poem by Shannon Atherton

The Voice Of A Child

I love my mum to bits;
I love my dad aswell,
But there's a little secret that
to no-one I can tell.

I'm worried about our future,
I wonder how we'll cope.
All I really need
is a tiny glint of hope.

I wish that we were better off;
I wish we weren't so poor.
But I've got a loving family -
Who could ask for more?

It's just that sometimes things are hard,
and sometimes things are tough.
We'd get through this hard time together
if love alone was enough.

Maybe love is all we need:
It's there to help us through.
So why is there so much despair
when we don't know what to do?

I wish there was something I could do
to take the debts away
so Mum and Dad coud open their eyes
to a bright and sunny day.
