The Wall Poem by Alfred Ramos

The Wall

Rating: 5.0

All my life I worked hard
So that one day I could relax
But sometimes life catches you off guard
As if your righteousness didn’t pay the tax

The golden years rushed in
Bald head and all
What I failed to see
Was the hidden crushing wall

Where suits play this daily game
Where paper is shuffled and shredded
They perspire on our dime without shame
On a web so evilly threaded

Life savings snake down the drain
Portfolios clutter backroom files
Greed overwhelms suffering and pain
Leaving courtrooms with denials

So now that I’m wrinkled and dry
Any oasis I see is but a mirage
I’ve run out of tears to cry
Lonesome feelings come in a barrage

Stripped of all my life’s saving
By a deadly stroke of a blood stained pen
Do I hide in my closet madly raving
To comprehend that smirk from my broker friend

They say the market is a yo-yo
It goes up and it goes down
Just wait it out you do-do
But by then I’ll be six feet underground
