Opened the door to take in delivered package,
looked beyond, a truly wondrous sight to behold.
From snow clad gardens and trees heaving
with white crystal covering a few weeks ago
the grass and foliage have fully appeared,
bedraggled, but alive following a bleak winter
On looking closer at the Chinese Maple,
already tiny budlets appear on its stems
while new green shoots and leaves push
upwards through the withered deadness
of last season's stalks, leaves and blooms
struggling towards the brightness of day
Trees now appear straighter, taller, bolder
with no winter winds curling them downwards
and giving a look of old crumpled scarecrows,
while bushes are seemingly recovering,
stretching, spreading their small branches
to fill vacant spaces left by harsh winter frosts
Robins and spring's other feathered birdlife
have returned, busily scurrying about to
nest build, lay eggs, keep their chicks safe.
Small woodland creatures are emerging,
looking for any tasty morsel to regain strength
following the past long winter of snow and ice
covering over their natural feeding grounds.
What a wonder Nature is, life returns again.
