When you are kinder than you ought to be,
The world takes advantage of your goodness;
When you are fairer than you have to be,
The people test your patience in excess.
When you are honest more than most around,
They ridicule your worldly-wisdom's lack;
When you are helpful more than people found,
They trouble you for assistance with knack.
When you are one, who minces not his words,
The world predicts your moves and acts funny;
When you are simple, humble like the birds,
They criticize and mock your virtuousness.
No matter, how well done, they will find fault;
No matter what struggles you have, none cares;
No matter what your feats, no one's surprised;
No matter records set, the world acts dumb!
