The World Is Unjust Poem by Vadakkumpurath Ramesan

The World Is Unjust

They climbed the mountain
The forest thick with wild life
As they eloped with each other
To the outrage of caste diktat
They crossed over boundaries
Only to tie the nuptial knot
In a place unknown
And unfamiliar to both
And they are alien
To a country and culture
He took her hand in help
But hold tightly
In his palm the yellow thread
Hanging with the metal locket
To mark their bond
As man and women
And licensed to live together.
The temple town gave them
A safe haven from vultures
Of casteism and evils
And they moved in comfort
And confidence to the temple
Where the sanctum sanctorum
Was open with deity beaming
With blessings and boons!

They were moving in the dawn
With dark and snow fall
In fulfillment of a dream
But were confronted
By a man turned beast
With uniform and authority
And picked her up an suspect
And both cried out in vain!
The beast took her
To the cover of forest
Where she was molested
And raped by violating
Her ever kept virginity!
As the beast left her
In bleeding heart
She killed herself
And her man jumped
From the cliff-edge
To the darkness of death!
Alas! This is the rule
That runs the world!
