The World Of Users And Opportunists Poem by Henry Igbinedion

The World Of Users And Opportunists

THE WORLD OF USERS AND OPPORTUNISTS

The world is full of them, users and opportunists,
Ingrates with smiling faces and calculating hearts,

They measure your worth by the favours you grant,
And forget your kindness and support once their needs are met.

Like leeches, they cling when there is something to gain,
Feeding on your goodwill, your time and your pain.

But once their hunger is satiated
They quietly slip away,
In search of another unsuspecting soul,
Another willing fool to exploit.

To them, friendship is merely a transaction,
Loyalty, a convenient illusion,
And gratitude, a word seldom remembered.

You are precious while you are useful,
Indispensable while you have something to give,
But the moment your well runs dry,
You become a stranger they once knew.

Yet, let their ingratitude not poison your heart.
For kindness is noble, though not all deserve it.
Learn to distinguish the hands that reach for yours

The true measure of friendship
Is not who stands beside you in Spring But who remains when the harsh Winter sets in
