There Is No Greater Friend Poem by Francis Duggan

There Is No Greater Friend

There is no greater friend than a friend when in need
For such a person is a true friend indeed
The one who will stand by you when you are down
Is surely your best friend in all of the town
You are never short of friends when you are doing well
But 'tis when you are down and life for you is hell
And you don't have the price of a drink in the bar
It is then you will know who your friends really are,
It is when you are one of the town's down and out
That you will come to know what friendship is about
The mates of the successful in numbers seem to grow
But 'tis when you are down your friends you'll come to know
'Tis when you are in trouble and in need of a lend
Only then you will really know who is your friend.
