There Is Someone Else But You Poem by Edgar John Jackson

There Is Someone Else But You

I have given you more than I could be
And shown you more than you could always see
I have made you strong when you used to be weak
I have been your words when you couldn’t speak
I was everything and more
As no one was with you before…
No one but me…

Don’t you
Don’t you see there is someone else but you?
Who needs to feel the same, that’s given you?
Oh… you.

I have given you smiles on your face
I’ve painted your sky with stars at night
When you were empty inside, I held you tight
I risked everything to make your world a better place.
I’ve opened my hand when you feel you can’t go on
I’ve been the shoulder where you can cry on.

It is so hard when I’m front of you and you don’t see
There’s someone else but you by your side and that’s me.

Ooh!
I will be blind and let you go away
You’ll see there will not be someone like me
I will be safe from your indifference of yesterday
You’ll see how much you’ve lost now that I can’t stay
Swallowing my pride to make you understand and see
There is someone else but you and it is just me.
