There Is Work To Do Poem by Shalom Freedman

There Is Work To Do

I am coming out of the long despair
I am already far away from it
Hope has returned
There is work to do
And I can earn money
And not simply wait to become poor
Who would have thought
That after all the years of fearing
Loss of writing time
I eagerly go to put another person's socks on
And hold someone up on the way to the bathroom
Another human being
Who can no longer stand alone
