There Was A Country Poem by Ojeikpo Elijah

There Was A Country

There was a country,
A land of verdant fields and rolling hills,
Where mountains touched the sky with their majestic fills.

There was a country, rich in culture and lore,
Where heroes were born and legends did soar,
Its people were brave, with hearts bold and true,
Their spirit unbreakable, their willpower anew.

They sang of their land, of its beauty and grace,
And cherished its secrets, in every hidden place,
From the shores of the sea, to the depths of the earth,
The country's tales echoed with valor and mirth.

For in this land, there was no shortage of strife,
But the people stood tall, with courage as their life,
They fought against corruption, with swords and shields,
And defended their home, with unyielding zeal.

With each battle won, their pride only grew,
For their country was strong, and its people true,
But peace was not permanent, in this land so grand,
For darkness always lurked, with its wicked hand.

The country faced hardships, within and out,
But its people never faltered, they never had doubt.
And when the storms settled, and the dust had cleared,
The nation stood tall, with its triumphs revered.

For there was a country, that would never fall,
For its people were united, through it all.
So let the bards sing, of this land so fair,
Whose name will be remembered, beyond compare.
For there was a country, with a heart of gold,
And its story will forever, be proudly told.
