They Are In The Few Poem by Francis Duggan

They Are In The Few

It is said about poets that they are in the few
Though this is not saying anything that is new
But who is or is not a poet ask one other than me
Since even literary critics on this does not agree
Though many refer to themselves as a poet
Only few are seen to be worthy of literary note
And even some of the minority adjudged to make the literary grade
Do not remain famous and from memory fade
But if you believe you are a poet then you must be one is how it seems to me
For we are what we think we are is how it seems to be
But it is the literary critics that writers to the status of poets elevate
Though their chosen one many may not see as great
And who is or is not a poet ask one other than me
Since i am not a literary critic nor i do not have a literary degree.
