They Have Passed Poem by George Samuel

They Have Passed

They have passed, who painted us blue,
They have passed, it is true;
They left us in the country of the sun,

And we have become their images, daughters and sons;
They have passed, who found our tradition.
They have passed, who formed our generation,
They have passed, but not forgotten;
They have passed, but their names not rotten,
They have left us farmlands;
So, we should not beg but use our hands

They have gone very far away,
To a country, some say of clay!
They were sad because they will never return,
They have passed.
