They Keep Coming Back Poem by Francie Lynch

They Keep Coming Back

Did you sit on your Grandad's bouncing knee,
Or play peek-a-boo with wee Granny;
And with cousins climb the orchard trees?
Did Aunts and Uncles come for Christmas,
Birthdays and those Special Days?
No?
Yes.

We sailed away when I was three.
To a prosperous new Country.

I didn't know the absence of the absent,
Until later.
School friends were part of large families.
I found my needed replacements.
They must have understood more than I did.
And so I learned about families from other families.
What it can be. What it should be.
I got it right!
They keep coming back,
Bringing others along.
