They Say Poem by Rachel Martin

They Say

This poem helped me realize a lot about myself, the world I live in, and the people I call 'friends'. I hope you enjoy it!

They say you can learn a lot about yourself
From other people;
But only if you chose to listen to what they have to say.
They say you can learn a lot about life
If just look outside the box
But sometimes that box is what keeps you sane.
They say beauty is only skin deep.
But what you hold in so deep others can not see.
They say love does not come easy
But only if you want it to stay.
They say that I am wrong
But only to their knowledge of what is “right”.
They say you are stronger then anyone
But if you don’t let people push you around.
They say you can be whatever you want
But if only the money you have can provide for you dreams.
They say to speak the truth is the best way out of a lie
But only if the truth you speak is not what they consider a “lie”.
They say do not judge a book by its cover;
But what if the outside is as only as good as the inside.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words
But what if you can come up with more?
They say your friends are only here for a reason
But what if you’re too blind to see why.
They say God always has faith in you
But what if you lose faith in Him?
Will He still love you, even if you don’t?
They say life is just an elusion
For what Heaven awaits us.
But Heaven is merciful and God filled.
How can Earth, now, with wars and people dieing;
Be so merciful and God filled.
They say color your life with things you’ve never done.
But yet people take that the wrong way,
With murders and guns.
They say poetry is only a form of expression
When really is a code name for depression?
They say love is the most beautiful thing that can happen to you,
But like all contracts;
You must read the fine print before you sign
Because once you’ve dotted your T’s
And
Crossed off your I’s
You’re now the Devil’s possession and prize.
They say listen to your elders,
Because with age comes wisdom
But with age comes lies,
More though out than meets your eyes.
They say with pain comes joy.
But only if you know how to stop the pain.
They say a lot of things in life,
But I say people are too stubborn
And want everything
I say what you need to do is
Stop searching for what you want
And
Start realizing what you have.
