They Say There Are Angels Poem by Mohammad Younus

They Say There Are Angels

They say there are angels.
I've read in manuscripts
and heard the tales,
Yet, I have not seen a single one,
Nor, believe me, do I wish
To witness their celestial form.

But do I really need to see
These beings of light and lore?
Do they hold sway over my soul?
I accept no overlord but one—
The Divine alone guides my way.

The Divine is my sufficiency.
Do they all have wings,
a radiant glow?
Their halos will not enchant me.
I have my own halo—divine light,
Not just around me,
but within—my essence.

Is their home in heaven, far above?
No, I harbour angels of my own—
My divine faculties, ever close.
If there's a realm where angels dwell,
It's within my heart's embrace.

I am certain there's a heaven,
In the heart, where angels rest,
These faculties—our intellect,
That lead us to divine wisdom,
And the true peace it brings.

In the sanctum of our heart,
Lies the angels' eternal home,
In everlasting harmony, to guide.
