They Spoke With Each Other Poem by Mohammad Younus

They Spoke With Each Other

They spoke with each other—
At the horizon they met.
Night asked Day the question,
As shadows emerged:
"Why does the world your warmth adore,
While they turn from my silent grace? "

Day looked at Night in a thoughtful way
And replied with a gentle voice,
In words that were so full of wisdom:
"I am the beautiful truth, without shades.
My sunlight, soft and high—
So they cherish me, for I bring them light,
Revealing all, making shadows bright.
No veils obscure, no secrets hide;
In my presence, they see the real.

But you, dear Night, are a sacred veil,
Truth hidden deep, where stars prevail.
Your beauty dances on illusion's shore,
Yet mystery calls from your deepest core:
I will reveal at dawn the hidden secrets
That I cherish in my bosom."

Night sighed softly, its stars aglow:
"I envy the ease your rays bestow.
But in my dark, I see them find
A space to wander, a freedom of mind.
Still, they fear me—they seem to hate
What lies in my shade,
For the whispers divine, the deaf can't hear.

Your golden face, so open, so clear,
Ease their burdens, calm their fear.
Yet without my shadows, they'd never see
The spark of truth that lies within me."

Day then smiled, its light growing thin,
As twilight deepened, the sky turned gray.
They found their balance in the fading day:
"For we are one—two sides of a whole,
Each bearing light for the seeking soul.
Without your stars, my sun would fade,
And without my dawn, your dusk would decay."

They parted then, in the closing gleam,
Each content to live their destined theme.
Day to awaken, Night to bestow
The truths in shadow, come to light.
