They Told Me! Poem by Mariah Ali

They told me i was an ugly duckling
Only to turn out a beautiful swan

They told me i was a dirty shallow stream
Only to turn out a deep colorful ocean, buried  beneath with scatered pearls


They told me i was only a shrub
Only to turn out a rose

They told me i was darkness
Only to turn out a blinding lightening

They told me i was just one of those fickle tree
Only to turn out a giant oak tree

They told me i was a bitter bile
Only to turn out a honey suckle

They told me i was everything wrong  and everything i touched will be ashes
Only to turn out a king MIdas

But! Lo! I knew i was everything beautiful! everything great! everything magical!


Yes they told me all,
And i defied All!
