Things I Remember Poem by Paul Gottselig

Things I Remember

I dedicate this poem to Chevelle Behar. You are the one person I will always remember. And trust me, your really hard to forget.

That which I remember is always forgotten,
and that which is forgotten is never remembered.
I don’t remember everything but everything is forgotten.
It is simply a matter of time.
Days pass. Months pass. Years pass.
But there is one thing I’ll always remember.
One person that cannot be forgotten.
She is the sunrise and sunset.
She is the rainbow that follows the passing storm.
She is the calm waters of the glistening ocean.
She is everything that I am not, and everything I want to be.
I look in the mirror and she stares back at me.
I don’t why, but I can’t help but think that she is my missing piece.
I’m an unsolvable puzzle and only she knows how to complete me.
She is the one I turn to in times of need.
She is the one who is always there to catch me when I fall.
I’m constantly running and running.
But running from what?
Maybe I’m not running away, but running towards something.
Running towards her.
She is unique in every imaginable way possible.
So carefree. So full of love and bliss.
She is a truly perfect and truly amazing friend.
She is quite frankly, the most wonderful and beautiful person I have ever had the good fortune to meet.
Every time I lay my eyes on her, my heart skips a beat.
I have never felt this way before,
and if I were to lose her I don’t know if I ever would again.
But I would trade my whole life,
just to spend a single minute alone with her.
The world could burn to the ground around us,
and all I would have to do is look into her eyes,
to know that everything would be fine.
For once, I can remember the past, enjoy the present,
and look forward to the future, without the fear of forgetting
all the things I want to remember.
