Thinking On Bigger Things Poem by Lone Dog

Thinking On Bigger Things

Yesterday,
While walking
In my garden,
Searching for any signs
Of its awakening from
A long winter slumber,
Three flashes of colour
Caught my eye -
Violet, then yellow and white.

I approached and
Saw before me
Three magnificent crocuses;
Three brilliant, trumpet-like miracles,
Perfect in every detail;
Their large colourful corollas
Exploding from seemingly insignificant
Needle-like leaves of dark green.

Their splendour,
Their perfection,
Their sheer beauty
Momentarily took my breath away:
And in that split second
Of ecstasy,
Pondering how Nature could
Create something so wondrous
And beautiful, -
I was humbled,
For I realized
How little I really understood
About bigger things:
The world, the universe, creation
And the miracle of life itself.
