Thirst Day! Poem by Denis Martindale

Thirst Day!

While many adults on this Earth will toast and drink champagne,
Some children lack what they deserve, clean water, not just rain.
In many lands, rain doesn't fall abundantly as such,
Clean water's like a miracle that they pray for so much.

Clean water doesn't grow on trees, yet fresh fruits ease their thirst,
Clean water always brings them peace, the finest not the worst.
Clean water comes from taps they know, like kitchen taps we share,
Our children see it overflow, yet how did it get there?

Compassion helps us all decide to share gifts unafraid,
Donations spring from love supplied then actions get displayed.
And so we must wait patiently to learn what must get done,
Because we know technology would help them one by one.

Then came new photos of success when children looked so glad,
Clean water brought them happiness like none they ever had.
Yet other children wait their chance in villages elsewhere,
Clean water helps their lives advance if even more would care.

The TV adverts come and go, do something if you can,
In ways that God alone could know, please help your fellow man.
Each thirst day, ask what you can do to ease more children's needs,
Please give to save the children, too, so water aid succeeds!

Perhaps we know about the children in many
countries who cannot drink clean water unless we
donate to the charities such as Water Aid providing
all the resources for pipes and taps to be installed.

The TV adverts that we see can remind us of the
urgent needs of others, yet can we donate or not?

Unclean water is polluted and infested, and many
children will suffer or die if we do not donate.
