This Land Shall Be Healed - Poem by Martin Ayanbare Ayankola
Something within tells me this shenanigans will stop
Something within me says these vagabonds will disappear
My land will be healed
I can feel it.
Something tells me these lies will stop
Lies told for ages on the graves of kwashiorkor killed children
Lies broadcast to hapless peasants and hungry graduates
I know one day dawn will come
And this ominous darkness will go forever.
Something tells me that this night long woes and cries
Will end in a new dawn and a new song
Something tells me redemption is near though it seems so far
These rubbles will be cleared
And justice planted on a fertile soil
This shame you and I bear will go
And we shall sing together under the shining African sky
Something tells me my land will be healed
And her children freed.
