Despite the nagging drone of modern life -
its pointless haste and competition;
despite depression, with its consequent
domestic strains and arguments -
this love survives.
Shrugging off the daily news that glares
from screens or from the papers,
and riding over rending tragedies
of relatives or friends who died too soon -
this love wins through.
Against all odds, this stubborn love fights on,
and warms cold night,
and lights grey dawn.
