This Restless, Complex World Poem by DM W

This Restless, Complex World

Cold stars are dying
In distant galaxies, as
We seek the warmth of
Instant connection. Days speed
By like bullet trains.
Screens of constant information,
Myriad channels.
Compete for our attention.
We are attached to
Gadgets. Like hopeless children,
Lost in a dark wood,
We cling to new talismans.
Smart phones are perhaps
Modern day rosary beads.
Quick fix solutions
Symbolise our restless age.
Dating agencies
Sell love to lonely, old hearts.
Seductive dreams flood
Consciousness. It seems that truth is
Now relative and
Meta - narratives are defunct.
Dreams can be made real.
Anything is possible.
In a wanton world
Without limits or anchors.
O Time is money!
Virtue is now virtual.
We're entangled in
Webs of deep complexity.
And yet we would be
Wise to keep to the Light, and
Not fall from grace, like
All the torn angels do, in time.
For all I seek is
True communion with you:
Where the rich stillness,
And the pure quietude lie.
In visions, I still
Perceive the singular rose.
