A tribute poem
Thomas Jefferson led a long and successful life,
Passing away in the year eighteen twenty-six,
The man of legends was very sought after,
For his political savvy and political mix.
Principal author of the Declaration of Independence,
As well as the third president of our great nation,
He also served congress,
Representing Virginia withour hesitation.
So pleased with his great state,
Also elected as Governor until seventeen eighty-one,
No man could compete with Jefferson,
A man to be reckoned with by anyone.
Shortly thereafter leaving our country,
To represent us with pride as a diplomat in Paris too,
A greater man would have not been found,
If we searched between me and you.
With such success he did perform while in Paris,
He was elected to become the United States Minister to France,
Upon returning to his great nation,
Also served as the first Secretary of State by chance.
Served other offices with much respect,
And oversaw the purchase of Louisiana too,
And had the inclination to send Lewis and Clark west,
Just to see what they could do.
While he performed for his country,
To such a high regard,
He managed to learn five languages,
And founded the University of Virginia in his back yard...
