Those Who Are Broken Poem by Jon ProskeyVigil

Those Who Are Broken

Meaning in our lives can be so fragile,
a single blow can destroy all of our being;
destruction can be so very agile,
once broken there can be no freeing.
Lives destroyed by careless words,
cold feelings and neglect can crush;
your heart flees much like the birds,
but the souls no longer bright and lush.
Preserving what we can we crawl away,
receding into our own mind;
we throw up walls every day,
we step out onto the street blind.
We see nothing bright or happy,
all is dark to our eyes, ugly and gray;
mistakes cloud the sky, and it will cry,
living life as a shell every single day.
Cold to the touch, and hard as steel,
we defend what is left of our existence;
nothing is felt no emotions to feel,
everyone we meet with resistance.
As goes the life of the broken,
looking for a purpose for our soul;
demons leave us every day a token,
some new hurt to stop a goal.
To find our meaning is a long road,
filled with trenches and sorrow;
grass overgrows this trail sowed.
The sky begins to shake and sob,
tears of blood fall all around;
years of hurt and mistake mob,
all around us it stains the ground.
Causing the trail to grow much thicker,
soon becoming impossible to follow;
so you sit down, listening to a snicker,
our lives have become so hollow.
No heart nor soul, are we even human? ,
we live in agony like the dead;
that is if we are alive assumin',
we walk with the weight of dread.
Lost along the path never to be found,
laying down now giving up;
the ground hugs us and pulls us round,
deep inside lost, nothing remains at sunup.
As is the life of the Broken who lose their way,
who do not find some inner power;
to help them get through every day,
out of shadows we no longer cower.
We the Broken who were set free,
we cling to hope and its soft touch;
breathing easy unleashed like the sea,
we carve our own paths and is such.
We the Broken are now free of despair,
feeling now our hearts return to the pocket;
of life, we now breath the free air without a care,
those who know will not mock it.
