They pranced like they were, on a grassy meadow
Scrawny muddy legs across the paddy fields;
Taking refuge under banana leaves,
The torrential downpour soaking them thru’
Their growling stomachs, like thunder rumbled;
Skinny to the bones, ragged to the core.
Drenched faces, behind the howling wind,
Their giggling burst ‘gainst the lightening flash.
Trouble free minds, not a care in the world;
Their shrill laughter, clapped with the thunder bolt.
They whipped long sticks as they jumped puddles;
Watching the ripples, dance in circles.
They bounced on grass, dangled on boughs;
Drank from a leaf cup and shook skimpy creepers;
They jumped in a pond for a free rain bath
And their laughter ripped through the platter of rain.
How easy to photograph the drizzle, the shower.
And click images of the forests, the lakes.
Of animals darting hither and thither.
All picturesque within their frame.
But I was lucky to capture the orphan’s laughter,
Replay it endlessly in my spirit.
I learnt the lesson of contentment;
A gift from the rain, the wind and orphans three
This is a wonderful piece Rekha....! I have fallen in love with this write and the three orphans who taught you the lesson of contentment! Lovely diction too! Top marks! I have a poem with more or less of a similar content- Oh, You are Rich- I invite you to read it!
Lovely Poignant Poem, Dear Roop Rekha, enjoyed reading, a Poem of substance and maturity based on Humanity. The day is awaited when there shall be no orphans and all kids well taken care of in this world.
