Time Poem by Oge Nwankwo

Time

Take me with you when you go
To meet better times ahead
Remind me again where they are
Better times are hard to come by
These days it seems we hide it so well
So well that even we forget where it is
Forget that it is there… ahead
Remind me that it is there
Convince me that I'm wrong

I cannot remember that real feel-good moment
Far ahead, or maybe closer by
Maybe I don't even know
How can I know when I have not seen
Take me with you so I can see
There are better times ahead
Whether far or near, I do not care
Take me with you so I can see

Take me out of here Time
This ride is long
There are ups and downs
Yet I know you will take me to this goal
This make-belief I've kept alive
In hope it really does exist
And when we get there… please just stop
Let me enjoy my time there, Time
For when we go, disdain will be mine
Time, what's ahead is slimy grime
I know it cannot be better
Than the better times you just took me to
Don't you want to reassure?

I ask too much I know I do
For you to go, for you to stop
But you're too stern, I whine too much
There's much much more for me to learn

The good times cannot be as good
Without the bad to compare
The bad times cannot be as bad
When it lets me enjoy the good

I look up and you are gone
You do not care… you just ride along
Balance
Go on…  I don't want to miss a thing.
