Times Left Behind Poem by Jess Silva

Times Left Behind

I watch your eyes, they refer to times left behind,
And these floors they fall away from us,
You close your hand around mine,
Because there is no space for this anymore,

Falling through my fingertips, I feel this feeling,
The air around us stops beating,
My heart breathes in and out,
Our heads fall softly into each other’s palms.

Pins and needles, my muscles they ache,
I turn away from the atmosphere,
As it draws ever closer toward my bones,
I can do anything but reach for you,
Because this is not the time, nor the place for this.

Your arms stretch out to me,
And all I want is to lean toward you,
But I pull away because we shouldn’t be here,
As these are from the times left behind,
When we dared to dream of a “happily ever after”.
