'Tis Only The Kindness You Have In Your Heart' Poem by Francis Duggan

'Tis Only The Kindness You Have In Your Heart'

'Tis not your religious belief system or the size of your house or your car
That tells me of the sort of person you are
'Tis only the kindness you have in your heart
That from others ever can place you apart.

It is not the size of your backyard swimming pool
Where on warm Summer days you and your wealthy mates and your family relax to keep cool
Or how many millions in money you make every year
Though about you such things you do not want us to hear.

You may be quite famous and known everywhere
But 'tis not your celebrity staus in the big World out there
Though these things may be good for your self esteem
We are not what we are to others 'twould seem.

Though others your praises may feel happy to sing
Your standing in the community of you doesn't tell us a thing
Since due to your celebrity status most others to your faults seem blind
I only ask are you one generous and kind.
