To A Girl Left Behind Poem by Melikhaya Zagagana

To A Girl Left Behind

In a milky morning cold, hands shed away
Deepening in pierce, sorrow stabbed a heart.
Trembling we inched a yard and inched;
The bleed, hurt, and poignance reigned…
Tears tumbled as each turned a back to one;
So through the bus windows we wept:
And waved as distance tore us part in parts;
To the world unknown even by sages I went…
But then a gullible lad was full of dream,
And formidable young woman blazed in hope.
On landing my stumble wobbled bobbing,
In distance of our dreams…how I fought in vain-
Filled with promise, gallant and love hard I tried,
And now I wish to have stayed at home.
I might be gone a little longer though madam;
If a boy binds you roses in my absence,
Take them home with firmness of hand
And loosen the ribbon while you wait.
In my garden you remain a rose that never fade
And a scent that survives my soul;
To a girl left behind may the gods of love
In kindness find us a road that we meet…
