To A Lost Mother Poem by Lone Dog

To A Lost Mother

Long years have passed without your smile,
The touch of one who cared,
But still remember well, do I,
The moments that we shared.

The happiness of heart I had
As you, from work, came home.
Remember how I waited in
The alley all alone?

Your voice was so, so comforting,
A lullaby, it seemed.
As fingers danced the ivory keys
I, on your shoulder, leaned.

One day when on your bed you lay
In tears, I knew not why,
I told you how I'd care for you
Not knowing you would die.

As illness sapped your strength away,
I did not understand
How God, in all his wisdom, could
Forget his fellow man.

Then Death stopped by! And now you're gone,
A remnant in the ground.
And all I have are memories and
A poem that I've found.
