To A Sitting Chair Poem by Kaikubad Ali

To A Sitting Chair

Your presence, beside the lake, beneath banyan tree
Has made many and I suppose not forgotten all history.
Once the poet, sitting upon, wrote the landscape
By watching the swans sprinkling the lake,
By watching the dark-cold water and water lillies.
You inspired him, gave him all the ease.
Many a days that grand old lady,
Lived alone in mud-hut, beneath banana tree,
Had come and sat to the God,
Cried for the life what became then sad.
Another day the wayfarer being tired
Sat and watched calm serenity, became glad.
On many afternoon, the lovers came,
Made you witness the give and take game.
One day he rather slept on you
As waiting to him was not but futile clue.
Their hand sharing and the last day of quarrel
Vacated the place, Later found by another couple.
O sitting chair, cemented and rooted over long,
You listened many, Who listened to your song?
