To Be Alive Is Not To Live Poem by Sarah Kirby

To Be Alive Is Not To Live

Rating: 4.5

Better to choose,
than to have someone decide for you.
Often there are few paths of which to take.
And sometimes it is more humane if the road to peace is the chosen option.

Better to be the man with his finger on the trigger of the desert eagle,
than the man in the barren wasteland, thirsty, with only the sweltering sun for company.
Choices are simply part of life,
and like everything, it too must come to a finish.

Better is death and dignity,
than prolonged pain and suffering at the hands of those supposedly omnipotent.
Is it not more humane to put an end to our beloved's torment?
To fall to sleep into the deepest, bluest of oceans is better than to force one into an everlasting nightmare.

Better to sleep, than to barely dream.
It is not enough to simply exist.
One should first truly live,
live without shackles, chains or nightmares.

Passivity will not do,
to just watch will not suffice.
Actions have always spoken louder than words;
A mantra that we should all begin to sing if we wish it.

Guess it's about euthanasia.
About some of the different types, active and passive.
