To Be Good To Do Good.. Poem by Prabhakar Srivastava

To Be Good To Do Good..

Once I got chance to hear
An amazing lecture on science
That scientist shook my conscience
With declaration that God is nowhere

Nowhere God one may easily say
And pick thosand holes in His creation
So many sufferings without hope of ray
In His name where killing is just fashion

Why should one then trust in Him
If He exists why appears so dim
Rivers of blood is flowing in His name
Innocents cry yet Hasn't He any shame

These thoughts almost swallowed me
I was writhing extremely to become free
And then I came across with a saint
I told him why I was growing so faint

And thousands quarries I had to ask
What's the religion? Was my first task
And with a soothing smile he spake
Remember once for all for God's sake

Being good, doing good is religion indeed
Rest is foolishness don't give any heed
Definition of religion did satisfy me
But How could easily i make him free

Why can't we perceive then God?
Why doesn't He use His severe rod?
When in extreme pain they call His name
Tell me numbers of time when He came?

That saint was still smiling on me
A counter question was flung on me
When can you see your own two eyes
It's through them all things you realise

I said but they are too near and my own
This time I was a little mild in my tone
And I said I could see them in the mirror
And he made me realize my foolish error

This is how God is your own indeed
He is in you in form of life's seed
And through Him you see this universe
And He made you free to bless and curse

But as mirror make you see your eyes
So His tinge may be seen in the wise
And in your own parents selfless love
And in every creature He really resides

He made the most beautiful rose for you
Of course with them He made thorns too
But then with wisdom your mind He filled
To choose the rose without being pricked

Whatever you do so you do really find
Despite the fact that God is ever kind
Actually with wisdom He makes all free
It's our choice we cry or be wild in glee

Actually putting hands on our eyes
We blame darkness, but never realise
It's our own action that causes darkness
Removing hands we too feel happiness

As in the night this sun doesn't shine
So in ignorance we too sometimes pine
But the sun of knowledge makes it end
And everyone then looks like a friend

There must be a father if you are born
It doesn't matter where has He gone
You have been imparted with enough might
Use your wisdom and make world bright

Thousand times I saluted that sage
He set me free from foolish cage
Science is good because we too are
Haven't we seen it in second world war

I trust in God you do your choice
But together let's make world rise
It's the thing Vivekananda taught in fun
'To be good and to do good' is religion
