Night and day I see,
Crushing pain, piercing your entire being like a spear
I see, I feel, I perceive and I hear.
I have suffered this terrible loss with you,
And my agony is doubled from seeing you
Your heart torn to shreds
I have heard your cries, wiped your tears, rocked you to sleep
I have kept mute when you did not wish to speak
And laughed with you when for my benefit you do
We have for hours driven across town with no destination
All of these I have done, but the questions you have asked me,
How can I begin to answer them?
I can only tell you what I have been told:
That God is somewhere up in heaven watching over us
That He knows why our dear daughter has slept in perpetuity
That He knows why it had to be our daughter
And that it was He who kept us alive instead of her
I can only tell you what I know:
That life is for living and nothing else
That sorrow like happiness is meant for humans
That to be alive is all we know even when we feel the need to die
And so we continue to live till we die, and to seek till we find
So why hasten it, My Love, this death that we all surely must die
Why wish for it? Why think of it? Why don't we live the life till we die
In pain or happiness whichever comes, with hopes for joy and peace
I have you and you have me, and whatever comes
Together we can face it head on
And one day finally, we'll die and be free
