To Ms. Violet Poem by Cory Fox

To Ms. Violet

Rating: 5.0

To Ms. Violet:
Please forgive my delay
In waiting for this day
I hope you’ve been fine
But while there’s still time
I’ve one last prayer to say

There in the rain and sun
Before we came undone
Lie flora and friends
But there on both ends
You alone are the one

Flawless roses galore
Flawlessly gnaw at my core
Though you were no rose
Transcending this prose
You became something much more

No, a rose wasn’t you
But still your righteous thorns grew
And while I digress
I ought to confess
I guess I had mine too

Receding like the tide
When our common waters dried
And I don’t object
But no one is correct
When our very roots have died

But for every regret
I could never forget
Whose colorful ways
In sweet summer days?
Only you, Ms. Violet
