To My Heart Poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

To My Heart

To my heart

Beat my heart but not too hard
Don't get upset when time is against your
Your wishes and when your ambitions
are thwarted, and you feel let down.
Dear heart you are my best friend
Carried me into old age, but now you need
The help of a second heart.
Yet you carry the most onerous duty as you are
Connected to my emotions.
I have promised you not to be sad but smile
A little more, pleasantly smile to impatient
Drivers, how are they to know I protect you.
When the day comes, and you have had enough
I will follow you.
