To My Mom Poem by Dr. Rani Mathew

To My Mom

A foetusonce I was
In the womb of my mom
Proud and happy I felt
Warm and cozy too.

I loved you, dear mom
How much you can never guess
And the dad of my dreams
Was the best of all dads
Elatedly Iawaited that day
WhenI hoped you will let me out
Into your world of colours and fragrance
And the fondling arms of my dear dad
Flowers and bees I dreamed of
And covetedtheir sweet company.
And atthe sametime reiterating to myself
That I will never never be a truant

Couched up in my comfortable bed
Untouched by seasonal changes
I was in a peaceful slumber
When something strange, I saw
Encroaching my comfort zone.

It grabbed me andI writhed in pain
For it was sharp and crook
It pulled me out of you, dear mom
And threw me into a bucket.

Didn't you hear me mom
When I shrieked out in terror?
How it so happened that
You failed to sense my anguish?

Was your world too small for me?
Is that why you let them slaughter me?
All my hopes are shattered
See mom!
How cruelly they havebottled me
I feel cold and lonely
Smart kiddies stand around
Gazing at me, the specimen in the lab
How could you be so cruel mom?
