Today Poem by liz berg naude

Today

Today my heart broke, quietly:
just a single tear to mourn its passing.
The loss of its tenuous hold on love split it in two
no sound to be heard
no mark to be seen
to warrant the pain.
That single pearl that slipped down my cheek
reflected a life’s desire,
leaving the barest trace of its path
etched on my face.
Soon that too will be gone
no mark to be seen
but still the pain.
The stillness of my body
echoes the numbness of my brain
and the day continued
second after second
no mark to be seen
but endless pain.
I will not share this pain I feel
I hug it and hold it deep within.
