Fire Dance Poem by liz berg naude

Fire Dance

The still embers of the unwatched fire
stirred;
a spark ignited
by the smallest whisper of hope.

Before I noticed
the fire raged:
flames consumed
and engulfed my
fevered brain.

Pulses racing,
my body revelled in its
warmth,
dancing blithley
with the deadly flames

till again, yet again,
beaten and bleeding
my love lay
amidst the embers
of a fire
doused by tears.
