Toddlers Poem by Sally Walker

Toddlers

Humans choose to believe that what defines maturity is age.
However I would like to sever this idea
Never in my life have I been presented an example more oppositional from this truth until now.
Mentality does not stay within a home and grow
Instead there are rentals
Every child its own apartment
These perceptions of reality are pent up in these small enclosures
No matter what pressures
These homes are not defined by their model
They are presented by their residents
The ones that are deemed adult may be defined by age
But they are not always at the same stage as their younger counterparts
This is where our world starts to see our own boggled choice in belief
That we choose to respect on age not maturity
Even though those under age show much more purity
As they present their feelings with sympathetic words and sound even
Yet what may be considered adult chooses to express their emotion through anger
Through aggression and pain
So that they remain ignorant to their own insecurity
So that they may be presented "stronger" in physicality but not in mentality
Because it is much more tough to let someone rough you up while you remain still than it is to throw your anger at someone so that you may skip the heartfelt conversation with a moral and an overall lesson.
So I'm just guessing
But I'd say some of the adults in our life may not actually be as "old" as they portray themselves.
