Tomorrow Yesterday Poem by Richard Phipps

Tomorrow Yesterday

Six o'clock in the morning,
not like any other time of day.
Time to clear your thoughts,
or save them all from slipping away.
Take all into consideration,
or leave them stranded by the way.

Somewhere out there the day is starting.
Somewhere out there the day is through.
Someone out there isn't sure what's happening,
but someone's always out there to collect what's due.

I saw tomorrow yesterday,
and liked all that I saw.
You were there as always,
leaving me in constant awe,
and now though just a memory,
an important part of each breath I draw.

Like cords of wood from a distant fire,
thoughts of you leave a constant beacon.
Your soul of warmth the search light,
that makes the memories all worth keeping.

I heard a song again today,
I hadn't heard in so very long.
One that brought back all those memories,
of the times to which we all belong.

Random thoughts and lonesome moments,
take me down those roads each night.
Cumbersome comments and lack of wisdom haunts,
tracks me down throughout each day.

That lump in my throat isn't all that I dread.
It's that bump in the road that brought it all to a head,
makes me want to be closer -
to feel your warmth, but instead,
all that's left are the yesterdays,
where we've been, what we've said.

I saw tomorrow yesterday,
and thought I knew just what life was.
We were off to who knew what or where,
then you left - just because.
Now a memory greatly loved,
with time suspended - a lifetime paused.

Break out of the heartache, shake out of the pain.
Live life forever. Come back home to us again.
