Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down. (Merle Haggard) Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down. (Merle Haggard)

The bar door shuts, the lights go dim,
I walk outside, no hurt within.
But tonight, you're here, so clear and bright,
Can't drink enough to make it right.

The bottle failed, it let me see,
Your ghost came back, right here with me.
My trusted friend, it used to be,
Tonight the bottle let me down.

A drink was always what I'd seek,
I've turned to it most every week.
But now the taste, it feels so weak,
An old hurt starts to softly speak.

Tonight the bottle let me down,
And let your memory come around.
The one true friend I thought I'd found,
Tonight the bottle let me down.
