Touch - Poem by David Keig

Touched with such a closeness
That could be called caress
Touched with many meanings
That could become, I guess
The promise of a life beyond
The life it is that passed
Touched with such a closeness
But do I answer 'yes'?

    *feeling dumb*
For some reason, i keep getting caught in these lines:

'The promise of a life beyond
The life that is that passed'

can you help me out? I feel like I am tripping on the words
