Tragic Sunrise Poem by Steve Wilkins

Tragic Sunrise

She gave him a kiss and stepped out the door, not a clue of what was really in store for her/he watched her silent I Love You from the window pane, as she drove off, he whispered jus the same/he turned his back, with a smile on his face as he made his way to sit in the kitchen/he gazed with joy at the empty seats, not a clue of what he'll soon be missin/she only made it 2 blocks b4 her world flipped/a young girl t-boned the car, fresh off an acid trip/pinned within the door and her own armrest, she screamed as blood slid off of her lips/as help arrived she tried to dial the house, but slipped right into unconciousness/E.R. bound, she fights to stay alive, he's completely unaware of his wife's heartwrenching cries/the phone rings he picks up and says hello, seconds later down on his knees screamin to God 'lord no! '/grabbed his keys, sped off into the sunlite/convinced that everything was gonna be alright/within a heartbeat he was there at her side, strokin her hair, she awoke to wipe the tear from his eye/neverminding the pain she embraced her husband dearly, lifeline beepin much slower/they drowned it out so easy/she looked him over slowly fadin away/silently sayin I Love You thru her very last gaze/he whispered it back and layed her down gently, pushed the button, doctor rushed in to offer up some sympathy/he stepped in the next room where the young girl lay, sleepin badly bruised, could barely make out her face/when she saw him, she asked how's mom/he looked back once more before he dropped the bomb/he turned to her side to spill the realization, needless to say, it was a silent conversation.
