Far away and soft,
comes the welcoming sound
of the train horn.
Some say it sounds lonely,
but not to me.
It calls to me
of childhood nights
in my darkened room,
a muffled noise
that blended in my mind
to mean safety, security,
mother and father nearby,
a feeling that all was right
with me and my world.
It can envelope me still in reassurance,
surrounding me with the sound of comfort.
