Every day that's gone by
Has taught me something new
I see myself and the way I was
As time passes through
And recognize it is me
And the person you once knew
Born-again with much love
Feeling strong, feeling true

My heart's improved in many ways
That you would not know
It has healed and forgiven
And now can only love
It's gained the courage to overcome
My fears and my flaws
Fears of "I can't change"
And well, the flaws that you know

The past could only work
Its magic in my soul
If I let it rip my faith
Doubt myself and believe no more
But as I rise every morning
And make a prayer to the Lord
I am certain God's with me
Every step through it all

I've thought of you and the kids
Together in our home
The vows we made at the altar
That said "to have and to hold"
When we played at the park
Or went down for a stroll
Those moments would need to be
Recorded in a song

But I'm not a songwriter
A musician even less
So I wrote this poem to you
And gave it all my best
Not one word, not one sound
Not one letter is meaningless
Because my heart was pouring love
While my hand wrote the words
